Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about mediation, reporting a case, and our services.

What is mediation?

Mediation is a voluntary, confidential process where a neutral third party (the mediator) helps people in conflict reach a mutually agreed solution. Unlike court, no one imposes a decision on you.

Is the service free?

CEPECOM's basic mediation and consultation services are free, particularly for vulnerable and economically disadvantaged community members. Some specialised services may have a small administrative fee.

How long does mediation take?

Simple cases can be resolved in a single session of 2–3 hours. More complex disputes may require multiple sessions over several weeks.

What types of cases do you handle?

Land disputes, family and inheritance issues, child custody and maintenance, workplace conflicts, school conflicts, landlord-tenant disputes, and financial recovery cases, among others.

Is everything confidential?

Yes. Everything discussed in mediation is strictly confidential. Information is only shared with the assigned mediator and is never disclosed to courts or third parties without your consent.

What if the other party refuses to participate?

Mediation is voluntary. If the other party declines, we can advise you on other options including referral to legal aid or the formal court system.

Can I use CEPECOM if I am in a remote community?

Yes. Our mobile mediation clinic visits farming and rural communities. You can also submit your case online and we will make arrangements to reach you.

How do I submit a case?

Use the Report a Case form on this website, or visit our office at Twifo Praso, Central Region.
